I enclose here a letter I sent to our Dutch friends today so I don't have to write everything twice.
Hi!
We arrived yesterday with a good westerly wind on the first half of the trip and no wind on the second. The previous two nights we stayed in Caleta des Valez, the wind was anything from 4-14 m/s the day before yesterday as it was on the next day when we sailed to Motril. In Valez I finally had time and effort to take apart the bilge pump because the floater switch hasn't been working during this trip. I did get a new one installed and now it's fine. Nina cleaned the bilge sump in the harbour toilet and because of the faulty lock got herself locked inside for quite awhile before somebody came for her rescue.
The reception here was very polite, friendly and in very good english, too. They had saved my email from about two weeks ago in which I asked for a price for wintering. Today they had a list price which was higher but when I asked about their previous offer they promptly found it and that's what we are going to get meaning: They will take the boat up and save it on what seems to be a very well protected area for 3 months and wash the hull for a total of 1000 €. The dry dock is here right in the middle of the harbour. Ther's a very well stocked supermarket about 300 meters from the harbour plus the normal buthers' shops etc. We can live on the boat even if it's on the dry dock as long we need to and we get water and shore power plus toilets and showers. Also we can do all the necessary maintenance for the boat when it's on the dry dock. They provide ladders and so forth. Everything seems very nice, the harbour fee for the boat is about 10€ with shore power and wifi (1€/day if you take for a month). The wifi is as allways... Water is included. There are two boat chanlers by the harbour and the other one is run by an english guy who seems quite competent. The harbour is big but it has been divided in smaller segments so it's quite nice. Quite a few English boats but a couple of Dutch, too. We have booked flights to Finland on the 12th of Dec so we look forward on seeing you here before that. We will take the boat up on the 10th. We'll fly back on the 9th of March.
I still have to figure out what I'm going to do with the engine. i'll probably contact the V-P dealer in Almeira on Monday and ask them for an offer for an overhaul and secondly for a new engine.
Panu + Nina
