8.4. Provisioning and boat cleaning. Before noon we set sails to Cala Macarella where we anchored. First few hours we had a fair wind with us but it again suddenly changed direction and we had to motor the rest of the trip. The cala was beautiful but the swell was quite bad and the night was restless.
9.4. We pumped up the dinghy and rowed ashore for a walk. We took the steep footpath to the top of the cliffs to admire the view. After some sunbathing we went back to the boat and found out that the anchors had given away again for a bit. We set sails for the next cala but the swell was so bad that we had to skip the calas and head for Mahon. Sailing was very difficult because the wind was about 6 m/s from behind and the swell banged the sails. Finally we ended up anchoring outside Mahon in the cala Taurera which had a very good shelter from all sides. The surroundings were quite impressive with a lot of old fortifications. After dinner and a shower we were ready to call it a night.
10.4 Again we woke up early, no wonder because we usually hit the bed before 2200. I poured some liquid soap inside the the dinghy and pumped it full. Soon I found two tiny punctures which I patched. We will see if they hold. We took the three mile journey to Mahon and after asking advice from an Englishman washing his boat found a pier right in the middle of the town. They charged us 25€ but didn’t have toilets or showers. The town itself was really nice, only that you had to climb like 50 meters up to get there. We had a drink and tapas, the tapas were actually really big and cheap compared to the prices they charge you on the beachfront.
11.4. Nina went (climbed) to the grocery and meanwhile I finally had the change to wash the hull from the finger pontoons. The best method was to use a dishwashing brush and undiluted boat shampoo and then rinse it off. We both had a very busy morning with all kinds of maintenance. There are very few visiting boats around at this time of the year. As we filled the water tanks I noticed that the O-rings were broken. I did get new ones from the chandlery and for once it was a cheap trip, 25 cents apiece. At about 1400 we started the engine and after motoring out to the sea set sails again. We had only about a half of the main and a third of the genoa but with the wind reaching 15 m/s we surfed with a speed of 6-7,5 knots to Addaya. Addaya is a very long and narrow cala with anchorage and a small marina. The wind was quite strong even in the cala so we didn’t fancy anchoring. We went back and fort in the bay for a while and finally a mariner came to the pier and helped us to attach. The place seemed really nice and the guys at the pier were very helpful and even spoke some English. The lady at the office was also really nice and had very good English. They have all the facilities including a fast (!) wifi for 20€.
